On Monday, March 6th, 2017, SIA hosted its 20th Annual Leadership Dinner at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC. Congressman Jim Bridenstine (OK-1) and FCC Commissioner Michael O’Rielly provided keynote addresses. Julius Knapp, Chief, Office of Engineering and Technology with the FCC received the 2017 Satellite in Leadership Government Award. The 2016 DoD Commercial SATCOM Workshop took place at the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel in Arlington, VA from December 14th-16th. As one of the year’s most anticipated industry events, the Workshop brought together government leaders from DoD Combatant Commands, Services and Agencies as well as commercial satellite industry operators, service providers, integrators, ground equipment suppliers, and manufacturers. This Workshop is the industry’s chance to exhibit their latest satellite-based solutions as they join Government decision-makers, participants and speakers plus many more. On September 28th, SIA organized a Senate Satellite Industry Technology Demonstration and Exhibition with honorary co-hosts Senator Mark Warner (D-VA), pictured speaking above, and Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO). The event was held at the Hart Senate Office Building. SIA Member Company sponsors and exhibitors included Boeing, DigitalGlobe, EchoStar Corporation and Hughes, Inmarsat, Inc., Iridium Communications Inc., Ligado Networks, Planet, Northrop Grumman Corporation, O3b Limited, SES Americom Inc., SSL, and ViaSat, Inc.
This is the third annual tech demo event following previous Congressional and FCC exhibitions. The tech demo series is designed to showcase SIA members’ leading edge space-based solutions to regulators and policy makers while underscoring the value of the satellite industry to U.S Government, Enterprise and Consumer customers and US society.

On March 7th, SIA hosted its 19th Annual Leadership Dinner at the Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC. Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert Work and FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler provided keynote addresses. Lt Gen John W. Raymond, Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Headquarters, U.S. Air Force and Winston Caldwell, Vice President, Spectrum Engineering, Advanced Engineering, Fox Networks Group received satellite industry awards.

On September 30th, SIA held a reception to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Association. More than 150 attendees from the DoD, NSC, FCC and the satellite industry attended the event.

On July 8, 2015, SIA organized a Congressional Satellite Industry Tech Demo and Exhibition on the Hill at the Rayburn House Office Building. The event was co-hosted by Rep. Jim Bridenstine (OK-1) and Rep. Doug Lamborn (CO-5) (pictured above, second from the left) and it drew an estimated audience of more than 130 persons including several Members of Congress plus senior-level Staff.
